WOYWW 277

Hi Everyone,

So I managed to finish the jumper last week, really pleased with it! I have put a little anchor on it but that was after I took the pic.

I've managed to get some pics of the bits I did in the crockery as promised. I am really please with how they turned out.

But the best thing is a tea for one pot that my mum bought my husband to paint for his birthday. He has done a very good job. BANANAAAA!!!

Now I just need to finish the other jacket I'm making!

WOYWW 276 Sailor Jumper

So I know I said last week I would have some bits from the crockery to show you but my mums been really busy so they haven't been picked up yet! Hopefully next week!

Anyway the jumper is progressing nicely, only have part of one sleeve to finish then I can sew it all together, yay!! :-) can't wait to put it on him it's going to look cute (and probably a little on the big side!)

Oh I nearly forgot about the card I made yesterday for my Grandma as a thank you. I finally downloaded a reduced version of Photoshop onto my tablet so I thought I would have a play around as I wanted to send a card with my sons hand and footprints in a pattern. So rather than do lots with paint which would be very messy and difficult to do on my own I took a photo of a role we made a while back with them on. This is what I came up with...

I couldn't send it to my phone so I had to take a pic of the screen :-( here's the original tile...

Anyway better get back to it!

WOYWW 275 I'm back

I know I've missed a few of these but I have a good excuse...I ended up in hospital...yep but I'm much better now! And even better I've lost nearly half a stone due to the low fat diet I have to be on. And then I forgot I know shock horror but I got my days mixed up last week...oops! So this week I've prepared it in advance!

Anyway spending a week in hospital I managed to get loads of my crochet jacket for my son done so I only have the sleeves and hood to do.

I've managed to start one sleeve but I've had to move on to another project because I'm going on a mini cruise to Bruges I wanted to make this jumper for my son to wear coz it is sooo cute. This is also in Nicky trenches book that the jacket is from, the pic is from the book.

This is my progress so far, not bad for a couple of weeks!! It's just a shame that I won't be able to enjoy the product Bruges is famous for.....Chocolate :-( but nevermind....chocolate doesn't go off doea it?? ;-)

I've also been back to the wonderful crockery as my mum (fairy thoughts) bought my husband a tea for one pot for him to decorate and I just couldn't resist doing something too.....but you will have to wait for next week!

WOYWW 271 Birthday mug

A couple of weeks ago I went to visit my family and make my brother in law a birthday present. The crockery in Eastleigh is a lovely place to relax and be crafty! Kilian played ball and slept the whole time until I had finished painting and was ready to do his foot and hand prints!

Sorry it's a bit blurry! I used stickers to create the letters (limited on time!). It says Uncle Sean Happy Birthday.

Banging paint brushes on the table as a distraction we managed to get the best prints so far!! Unfortunately I don't have a pic of the finished mug yet but I'll get one for next week.

The jumper is progressing well so far and I've reached the first button hole.

Kilian has his jabs again today and it's our wedding anniversary so it's going to be a busy day!

WOYWW 269 Crochet Jacket

Hi everyone,

I decided a while ago to make my son a jacket from a crochet book I have, cute and easy crocheted baby clothes. And this week I've finally managed to make a start! (Below is an image from the book, so you can see what it will look like once finished, hopefully!)

I haven't managed much but I am making the 12-18month size (it'll probably take me that long to finish!!). Also I had a bit of trouble getting started because the pattern is a bit misleading. The special abreviation for v-st should actually all be in the same chain but reads like it should be in separate chains. I've found a copy of the pattern online so if anyone else fancys a go you can find it here: http://m.canadianliving.com/#!/home_and_crafts-crochet/crochet-a-cosy-hooded-jacket-for-baby/178b93d455b8bd14465cf499357caa07

The other reason it's going slow is because little man has discovered how exciting it is being bounced up and down on people's laps and now doesn't want to do anything else! (My arms are aching just thinking about it!)

I will edit this with a pic of my progress so far a bit later as I currently have a sleeping baby on my arm!

I will put up some of my pictures from the airshow, it was amazing! Just need to find time to upload them all (there's well over 200!)

WOYWW 267 cushions finally finished

Hi everyone, sorry I missed you last week but my little man had his injections again so I was focused on him (and I forgot!! ;-) ). Anyway I've been able to finish my cushions!! Here's some pics

I'm pretty pleased with them even though the fabric didn't an sort as much of the dye as I was hoping but nevermind. I'm going to try a different fabric next time and see if I can sell these babies!

There isn't going to be much on my work desk this week as I will be mostly plane spotting due to the farnborough airshow!!
(Not that I know what half of them are!!) I have a great view from my front room as they have to fly right over the house in order to land!! Yep that's the Red Arrows.

WOYWW 265 Cushions part one

I managed to get the first colour of my cushions done. It didn't turn out quite how I wanted as the fabric was quite thick so I probably should have done it in smaller pieces, nevermind.

It was pointed out to me that not everyone will know what I'm talking about (thanks Julia). For those of you who don't know shibori is, it's a Japanese dying technique using a few different methods such as folding and stitching as well as the more commonly known tie-dye. Decrolin is a chemical used to remove dye from fabric, mostly used as a paste but I created a method to use it like a dye. (bit hard to explain as I'm trying to keep this short so I'll try and do another post for any who's interested).

So this is the next stage on my work desk all ready to dye this week. Just needs clamping between two pieces of wood which I need the hubby to help with. Pegs are just temporary.

WOYWW 264 Cushions

I managed to get quite a lot of the jigsaw puzzle from last week done at my sisters, mostly because my bag was left behind so I had no clothes or my book so all I could do was the puzzle!! Luckily my sisters and niece were able to get me some bits and pieces as I wasn't able to leave the house! Here's the progress so far (I had to leave it behind as it wouldn't fit in the car!) actually I managed to do a bit more but I don't seem to have a pic, all the bottom half is done and most of the sky (which was a pain to do) so it won't take long to finish when I get it back.

Had a lovely weekend tho, and we surprised the parents with a wedding anniversary card (35th!!) and a holiday which we have booked for all of us to go to Swanage next year which will be great :-)

Anyway onto my work desk this week....well as I'm sure all of you mothers out there know dryclean only does not mix with babies so I'm giving my sofa a make over with some new washable cushions. As I couldn't find any machine washable ones I liked in the shops I've decided to make some so I've bought some white cotton and three colours of dye so I can mix the colours that I want! Hopefully I'll get time at the weekend, whether permitting when the other half can look after baby! I plan to use shibori to create a pattern using a limeish green colour and a teal colour...hopefully (there are not guarantees with dying!).

And I'm hoping to experiment with the leftover fabric and some dylon due stripper. I can't get hold of the decrolin that I used at uni so I'm hoping this is a good alternative to practically remove some of the dye, will have to experiment with the quantities to get the effect I'm looking for!

WOYWW 263 Jigsaw puzzle.

Hi everyone,

I've been making slow progress with my baby blanket over the last week. Here's a pic just incase you missed it last week as Julia was ill, hopefully she is feeling better this week.

This week I'm afraid my work desk isn't that exciting as I am going to be staying at my sisters on Friday as our husbands are away for trail marathon wales!

So I'm going to be on my own Friday afternoon at my sisters while she is at work and the guys are making there way to wales. As I can only take so much in the car what with the pushchair etc I decided that I would start putting together a jigsaw puzzle from Disneyland Paris that I bought for my dad quite a few years ago now that I want to put in my sons room. My sister has bought a frame for me so I'll be able to transport it back. I've sorted out the edge and corner pieces (in the red box) in advance to speed things up a bit, hopefully I'll get it finished!

Hopefully next week I'll have something more exciting on my work desk as I need some more cushions for my sofa (dry clean only does not mix with baby's!) and as I can't find anything I like I'm going to dye and make some myself that way I'll get what I want!

I'm going to use a technique called shibori that I learnt during my degree so that they will have some pattern on! The background of this blog is one of the pieces I did in my final year with a drawing I did over the top.

Father's Day card

I'm not usually into card making. However when I realised that the card I had from last year (I forgot it and bought another) was actually a birthday card I decided to make one. Mainly because I was being lazy as I didn't really want to walk into town for the 3rd time this week. To be fair at a quick glance it looks like a Father's Day card!!

Anyway it's amazing what you can do with an iPhone, a printer, some photo paper and sugar paper in a rush!! There's an app in the App Store called Moldiv which creates photo collages that you can save to your photo library. It also allows you to add text and stamps. So I made this using some photos from Facebook and my phone and I'm pretty pleased with it :-) Thankfully I can print straight from my phone so there was no messing about with a laptop. Tho I did mess up the first print as the paper was the wrong way round but it looks pretty cool!

Here's the finished card...a pic of me and my sisters when we were little and then a pic of each of us grown up.

WOYWW 262 baby blanket

I may have been a little too optimistic on my last post about finishing my white work kit! Here's the pic as I added it later so some of you may have missed it!

Sorry I didn't post last week but my little one was Ill with his first cold so I didn't manage to get anything done as lots of cuddles were needed. He also had his first set of injections last Wednesday and was really grizzly in the afternoon so I just couldn't get my post done!

Anyway I've decided to try something a little bit easier to pick up and put down so I am going to try and finish the baby blanket I started when I found out I was pregnant (yes I know it's taken a long time but I got bored! Should have done squares to make it more interesting but it's too late now!)

WOYWW 260 The wedding

On Sunday my beautiful sister was married in a lovely ceremony and I now have another new brother! I have to say she looked stunning in her dress and he scrubbed up well too ;-)

Kilian looked really cute in his little suit and I even managed over a couple of days to make the brooch for my mum to wear. It's made with silver pearl purl, cake wire, organza and beads.

This week on my work desk is a piece of white work dragonfly that I started as an introduction kit a while ago...hopefully it won't take too long to finish!!

WOYWW 259 Wedding Suit

Hi everyone, last week on my work desk was a shirt and trousers I was going to make into a suit for my son to wear at my sisters wedding.

Well firstly I gave in a bought a patten but I think you'll forgive me as he is only 6 weeks old. Whoever designed that pattern clearly has know idea how big a new born is as we (fairythoughts (mum) and I) must have reduced it by at least half if not more!!

Secondly being the idiot that I am I forgot the take the shirt and trousers to my mums where I was going to have a babysitter (Auntie Lucy) so I could actually get it done! Thankfully my dad donated a shirt and we managed to get a skirt from a charity shop for 99p!

After all that with a lot of help from
Mum with pattern cutting (I'm not as experienced with making clothes as she is!) and Auntie Lucy taking care of Kilian we managed to make a shirt, trousers and waistcoat leaving only the buttons for me to sew on when I got home in less than a day! Not bad really!! So here's the result

He is going to look so cute in this! I will put a picture up next week after the wedding of him wearing it!

This week I am going to make my mum a gold work and organza brooch to wear at the wedding which is my own design (I know! I don't normally leave everything to the last minute ;-) ).

WOYWW 258 my first time

This is my first WOYWW but as I know you all have a lot to visit I'll keep it short.
On my work desk this week is the shirt and trousers I'm hopefully going to transform into a suit for my son as I mentioned in my last post. I'll keep u updated on my progress and hopefully by next week I'll have the finished outfit on my work desk! Baby allowing!

As the wedding is only a week and a half away I'd best get cracking!

Hello and Welcome to my blog!

As this is my first post I suppose I should tell you all a bit about myself. I have just become a mother to a gorgeous little boy (who seems to have naturally developed a Mohawk!). I am also very creative studying both embroidery and printed textiles. I hope to upload some images of my previous work soon for you all to see. I am currently trying to finish a baby blanket and also create a suit for my son to wear at my sisters wedding (who knew baby suits could be so expensive!!). Luckily I have one of my old work shirts and a pair of my husbands work trousers (they conveniently developed a hole!) that I am hopefully going to turn into a cute little suit for him, fingers crossed! Will keep you posted on my progress...so far I've managed to create a leg pattern! Right better get back to it!

Oh and if you haven't guessed yet I love purple!!
